Welcome to Valerie Arthur Counselling

A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life

Welcome, and thank you for visiting. My name is Valerie and I am a counsellor based in Guildford, within easy reach of Woking, Horsley, West Byfleet, and Weybridge.

Counselling and therapy in a safe, comfortable and private setting

I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist working with adults and young people aged 16 years and older. I offer short and long term therapy to individuals and can work with you in person, online or by telephone.

I offer an in-person counselling service every Tuesday morning (9am-1pm) , Wednesday afternoon (1pm-5pm), Thursday evening (5pm-9pm) and Saturday morning (10am-1pm) at the Eaves Counselling and Psychology Service in Guildford. Please do enquire about availability.

If you are interested in online or telephone counselling please do also contact me. I have greater flexibility using these platforms and am happy to consider times that may be better suited to your schedule.

As well as my private practice I have experience offering short term counselling to 16-25 year olds and have also previously worked for MIND (adults 18+).

In my previous role as a social worker I gained many years of experience supporting families and young people. I understand that life can be complex and challenging. Relationships and circumstances can become strained for a variety of reasons and to work through these difficulties with someone outside of your day-to-day life in a safe space can be helpful.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). This means that I have signed up to and adhere to a very clear set of ethical guidelines helping me to work safely and professionally with you.

I appreciate that life can feel challenging at times. Relationships and experiences from both your past and your present can leave you feeling confused, anxious, depressed, hopeless, out of control or simply overwhelmed. It can be hard to process these feelings alone.

By offering a compassionate, non-judgemental space to share your thoughts and feelings I can provide you with the opportunity to reflect on the place you have reached. A space to untangle your feelings and find meaning to the emotions you are experiencing. This in itself can help clear the path to fresher perspectives and ways of managing.

I believe we all have a remarkable capacity to withstand and rise above adversity, to grow and adapt to our changing environments and life experiences. Counselling can help to unlock this potential, supporting you in making healthier and better choices for yourself.

As an integrative counsellor my work uses elements of different therapeutic approaches. It's highly personalised and allows me to take into account your unique circumstances. What works for one person might not work for another. Its about finding the approach that works best for you and tailoring it accordingly. I will always work with you at a pace that suits you and my approach is grounded in respect, empathy and compassion.

Integrative therapy can help with a range of short and long-term issues, including:

anxiety

depression

trauma

relationships

addictions

bereavement

low self-esteem
